GAMBARAN PENYESUAIAN DIRI INDIVIDU DEWASA DENGAN DISLEKSIA PADA BIDANG AKADEMIK: STUDI NARATIF
Abstract
Dyslexia merupakan kondisi neurologis kompleks yang memengaruhi kemampuan individu dalam membaca, menulis, dan mengeja yang dikenal sebagai gangguan belajar (learning disability). Individu dengan disleksia mengalami kesulitan dalam membuat catatan, memahami materi pelajaran, dan mencapai kinerja baik pada akademik. Hal ini dapat menyebabkan perasaan frustrasi, rendah diri, dan isolasi, karena tidak dapat bersaing. Penyesuaian diri adalah aspek fundamental dari perilaku manusia yang mencakup kemampuan untuk menyesuaikan diri dan merespons secara efektif terhadap perubahan dalam lingkungan, dinamika sosial, atau keadaan pribadi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan naratif terhadap satu subjek individu dewasa awal (25 tahun) dengan diagnosa Specific Learning Disorder (Disleksia) dan sedang menempuh pendidik tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi dan memahami pengalaman hidup individu menghadapi tantangan akademik, strategi adaptasi, dan mekanisme coping terhadap stres. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa individu dengan disleksia mengalami tantangan di dalam proses pemahaman dan penyesuaian dari segi akademik, hal ini berdampak kepada rasa frustasi dan harga diri yang rendah. Dalam strategi penyesuaian diri dan coping menghadapi stres ditemukan upaya untuk penerimaan diri dan memfokuskan pada kelebihan yang dimiliki serta upaya menemukan cara belajar efektif seperti gaya belajar auditory dan menemukan media penyaluran emosi ketika mengalami frustasi melalui hobi.
