ANALYSIS OF CHANGES IN BUILDING FUNCTION AND FORM IN THE ROAD AHMAD YANI AREA, PADANG CITY

Abstract

This study analyzes the transformation of land use and building functions in Jalan Ahmad Yani, Padang City, from 2015 to 2025. Utilizing a qualitative and spatial analysis approach, the research investigates the historical and current functions of the area, highlighting the shift from primarily residential uses to commercial activities such as shopping centers and offices. The study applies Burgess's concentric zone theory to interpret urban development patterns, demonstrating that Jalan Ahmad Yani has transitioned from a residential zone to a commercial hub due to strategic location advantages close to the city center. Factors driving these changes include economic growth, urbanization, and urban planning policies, which have contributed to positive impacts like economic modernization but also pose challenges such as traffic congestion and loss of historical character. The findings suggest that urban planning adjustments are necessary to accommodate ongoing developments while preserving the cultural heritage of the area.
